Both the first and second editions are of great interest for the students of the Old Course at St. Andrews. History and explanation of the game, tournament results from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, etc. The folding street plan in very good condition. Spine with loss at head and tail, split and reglued lower portion. Brown cloth faded. Original endpapers, owner name and 1850 on ffep. Slight foxing through the preface, offset toning to pages opposite illustrations, else clean. Early golf reference. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. There is a history of golf and explanation of the game, tournament results from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, etc. Bound in the original blind-stamped cloth boards, gilt lettering and decoration on spine. No loss at head or tail of spine, no cloth splits, spine cloth faded. The folding street plan is in fine condition. All plates and tissue guards are present. Original yellow endpapers without bookplate or former owner name. Contents clean, a very nice copy of an edition prone to cloth damage. Early golf references. Covers protected in mylar.
