The History And Chronicles Of Scotland (Volume I)

Before Shakespeare dramatised Scotland and before modern historians reordered the past, Hector Boece shaped how a nation remembered itself. The past feels vividly near. The History and Chronicles of Scotland (Volume I) is a landmark of Renaissance Scottish history, a sweeping account that moves from the origins of Scotland and its legends and founding heroes to the rise of the early kings of Scotland history. Written as a classic medieval chronicle edition, it weaves battles, alliances and omens with meticulous Scottish royal genealogies, preserving medieval Scotland history in the imagination of its first great national historian. For readers of medieval British chronicles and students of early modern Scotland alike, this Scottish history volume 1 offers a primary voice from the period, rich in narrative colour, political imagination and national myth-making. Long regarded as a foundational text in the history and chronicles of Scotland, Boece's work influenced later chroniclers and helped frame Scotland's past for Europe. Ideal for Scottish history students, medieval history researchers and curious general readers and collectors, it invites close study as well as reflective, immersive reading. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
