Hubbed spines each bear four raised bands and are stamped with gilt lettering. All edges marbled in blue. Marbled endpapers are dark blue, pink, yellow and white. [Third edition.] 1812. xix, 628 pp. VOLUME V: "A Continuation of the Sixteenth Century". Third edition. 1812. xii, 588 pp. CONDITION: This entire set is "good" only, with significant flaws. All five spines have been taped along their entirety with clear shipping tape to reinforce the joints. Inner hinges have cracked substantially, yet boards are still affixed. External wear with some chipping and leather erosion, particularly at the head of the spine of Volume I. All marbled endpapers have a strip of this same tape at the gutter for reinforcement. Some occasional annotation within the margins throughout. Light to moderate attic smell. Even still, no leaves are loose and the lightly toned pages have minimal foxing and turn effortlessly. Text is dark and quite legible. A very readable, complete antiquarian set.
