Copyright page indicates originally published in 1847, date on title pages is 1848. Dark teal cloth covered boards. Front and back panels are decoratively blind-stamped. Gilt lettering and graphics on spine, and also with blind-stamped decorations. Spines are heavily sunned, as are parts of the front board panels. Board panels are scuffed ad stained. Upper and lower edges at head and tail of spine are split and fraying. All fore-edge corners are turned-in and rubbed through. Rub-throughs on the board edges closest to spine. External page edges are age-soiled and -darkened. Both volumes include frontispieces with tissue-guards. Vol I gutter is cracked at verso to half-title page. Both volumes have an odd scuff-stain on all end-papers - see photo. Previous owner's name on both front paste-downs. Internal foxing primarily on several pages toward the front and back of volumes, only occasionally on the text pages. Text blocks are sound.
