Herbert Claiborne Pell was an American diplomat and public servant whose career included service as United States Minister to Portugal and later to Hungary. He was known for his interest in international cooperation and for his work with the United Nations War Crimes Commission during the final years of the Second World War. Pell came from a prominent Rhode Island family with long standing ties to public life, and his legacy continued through his son Claiborne Pell, who became a well-known United States Senator. A Very Good, full leather binding with gilt ornate design on spines, gilt lettering on spine labels, spine labels are chipped with loss, marbled text block edges and endpapers/pastedowns, some age toning to pages, leather spines a bit age/sun toned, ribbon markers, some age spotting to leather boards, bit of rubbing along board edges, bit of scattered foxing to front and back matters, slightly starting hinges, crease bottom corner last three pages of Volume 3, fold out map in Volume 1 present.
