viii; 120pp plus a full-page black and white illustration to frontispiece, 30 pages of plates and 24 figures (sketches of cars and their engines). Ex-library book from St Mary's College, Strawberry Hill, with a number of pages stamped without impact to the text or illustrations. Library sticker pasted to last page of the four advertisements to rear of book, with signs of rusting where a paper-clip had been inserted. Head of title-page has the library stamp rubbed out in blue biro, and front free endpaper appears to have been excised. Grey boards with gilt titles to spine and a decorative emblem to centre of front board; imprint of paper-clips to head and foot of front and rear boards which were presumably intended to hold the dust jacket (not now present) in place.
