A History of the Easter Rising in 50 Objects

John Gibney tells the story of Ireland's Easter Rising and its aftermath through 50 objects that survive from that time. Some of these are what you might expect - documents, uniforms, weapons, and flags - but others are quirkier objects, like the cricket bat that died for Ireland, Sean Mac Diarmada's hurley, the teacups the Pearse brothers used for their last cup of tea with their family. This fresh perspective makes for a very readable book. With color and black & white illustrations.

John Gibney holds a doctorate in History from TCD and has been a research fellow at the University of Notre Dame in the USA and at NUI Galway. He has written several books on Irish history and produced an acclaimed radio documentary on the folklore of inner-city Dublin.
