All volumes w/ previous owner's name on flyleaf; contents well-toned, moderately foxed, otherwise clean, unmarked, no brittleness, bindings & hinges quite firm; exteriors pristine. All volumes bearing its frontispiece portrait, but Volume 3 lacks the bottom quarter of frontis. portrait of Elizabeth I (this portion would bear just her name; the picture of the queen herself is fully present), along with missing title pg. & Table of Contents. Volume 4 shows water-stain to inside margin of first few pgs. First 3 volumes are lacking the final 1 or 2 pages of Notes to the text, pagination therefore as follows: xxiii, 522 pp. (missing last 2 leaves) + viii, 518 pp. (missing last leaf) + 532 pp. (missing front matter and last 2 leaves) + [8], 504 pp. + vii, 488 pp. + [8], 293 pp. with unpaginated index, 3-page list of subscribers' names, and 1-page publisher's prospectus.
