13pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 14 engravings, including 6 portraits, salvaged from a damaged issue of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, Volume LI, #303, August, 1875. William F. Harnden and the beginning of the express forwarding business. Illustrations include a scene of the morning run leaving general office, New Church Street, New York City, an army express office, a view of the loading dock in the general office, a scene of collection and delivery, the pursuit of an express mail-carrier, Indians attacking an overland express coach, an auction scene for unclaimed parcels, and portraits of Harnden, James W. Hale, Alvin Adams, Henry Wells, John Butterfield, and William G. Fargo. Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve.
