History of the War in India, Including the Complete History of British India, from the Earliest Times to the Present Day. Also, a Sketch of Gen. Havelock. Illustrated with Numerous Engravings. By Henry Frederick Malcolm and printed in Philadelphia by J.W. Bradley. 1860, 512 pp, 8 x 5.5 , 8vo, hardcover full cloth. In good condition, with minor rubbing and wear to boards. Some discoloration to spine. Hinges remain in good condition and text block remains bound well. Light markings and marginalia. Light staining to some pages, primarily towards front. Includes occasional black-and-white engravings throughout, along with a small foldout map of India at front. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on British conquests and frequent conflicts in India. Written less than 2 years after the conclusion of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny, which occurred for over a year across much of the subcontinent and left over 6,000 British and close to a million Indians dead.
