History of the Life- Board and its Work. By Richard Lewis and published in London by Macmillan and Co. 1874 second edition. [15] + 251 pp. 7.5 x 5.25. 12mo. Hardcover 3/4 leather. In good condition, with light scuffing to exterior. Light starting to hinges. Text block remains bound well. Light markings, along wit bookplate of Truscott affixed to front pastedown. Includes a variety of plates and in-text illustrations, along with two foldout accident charts, with small tear to larger foldout. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on the history of lifeboat rescue services in Britain. Owned by Francis Wyatt Truscott (1824-1895), who served as Lord Mayor of London from 1879 to 1880. He was the father of George Wyatt Truscott, who also served as Lord Mayor from 1908 to 1909.
