Front cover held by cords only, ffep lacking, last page of Sowle catalogue detatched, creased and with one or two letters missing. water stains to first quarter of the book, pds have been used to practice handwriting in the early 1700's; gift dedication to Mary Tylor by Mr Darby on upper margin of title page c. 1720's. A Quaker who was often emprisoned for his beliefs, Ellwood is best knwon as the reading companion of John Milton and an early commentator on Paradise Lost and Paradise regained, A poet in his own right, some of his works are included in this, his autobiography, published posthumously. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".
