Sprache: engl.- Lynn Thorndike (* 24. Juli 1882 in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA; ? 28. Dezember 1965 in New York City) war ein US-amerikanischer Wissenschaftshistoriker.Thorndike lehrte ab 1907 Mittelalterliche Geschichte an der Northwestern University. Von 1909 bis 1924 war er Professor an der Case Western Reserve University und von 1924 bis 1950 an der Columbia University.Er übersetzte unter anderem das mittelalterliche astronomische Lehrbuch «De sphaera mundi» von Johannes de Sacrobosco. Bekannt ist er vor allem für seine achtbändige Wissenschaftsgeschichte A History of Magic and Experimental Science, die ab 1923 erschien und die von der Frühzeit des Christentums bis in die frühe Neuzeit reicht. Sie behandelt auch die Geschichte der Alchemie. Im Gegensatz zu Jacob Burckhardt sah er keinen entscheidenden Bruch vom Mittelalter zur Renaissance in Italien.1928 gehörte er zu den Gründungsmitgliedern der Académie internationale d?histoire des sciences. All the books offered are complete and, if not stated, in good condition. Minor wears and marginal damages are not always indicated, but considered in the pricing. All offers are subject to confirmation. Shipping costs are charged to the customer's account. Our confirmation of the order concludes the agreement of purchase. Protection of privacy
We, the antiquarian bookshop peter petrej, only record the necessary data. They are solely used for transacting the order and to facilitate the purchase of the repeated customers. With the order the customer accepts receiving our newsletter with the latest offers per e-mail. All personal data are confidental and will never be passed to third parties.
Terms of payment
Invoices are to be paid within 15 days. For first orders we reserve delivery after payment in advance. In case of delay of payment, the second reminder is charged at an extra cost of CHF 10.00. Also, other additional costs are charged to the customer.
Sales return
In the event of a well-founded claim, the merchandise can be returned upon consultation within 14 days. If the claim turns out to be unsubstantiated, or the damage is the result from improper handling by the customer etc., all the costs are charged to the customer. Returns are only accepted with the invoice enclosed. Damages during shipment have to be notified within 48 hours. Otherwise the refund expires. Return upon dissatisfaction is excluded.
Place of venue
We are subject only to Swiss law. Place of venue is Zurich.
