He can write with more minuteness of detail, and with a fresher and more life-like coloring. He can write with more confidence, and, drawing from his own experience and observation, is in this respect more trustworthy. Isaac Backus (1724-1806) was a theologian and historian. Among his many published works are Godliness Excludes Slavery, An Appeal to the Public for Religious Liberty, and The Doctrine of Universal Salvation Examined and Refuted.
