The History Of The Rise, Progress, And Establishment Of The Independence Of The United States Of America: Including An Account Of The Late War, And Of The Thirteen Colonies, From Their Origin To That Period" by William Gordon offers a documentary history of the American Revolution, tracing its political and military arc from the colonies’ origins to the war’s major theaters. It maps southern campaigns, northern engagements such as Stony Point, Franco-American naval diplomacy, Caribbean warfare, and the internal politics of the Continental Congress. The narrative interweaves battles, governance under pressure, diplomacy, and finance, covering alliance negotiations with France and Spain, arms supply controversies involving Beaumarchais and Silas Deane, prisoner treatment, and public debates over independence. It situates strategic decisions across Savannah, Charleston, Philadelphia, New York, and European capitals, illuminating how international rivalries, logistics, and domestic factionalism shaped the pursuit of American independence. It is a dense, period-wide account that combines military chronicle with political context.
