Hardcover with brown cloth over boards, bronze lettering across spine, embossed illustrations on each cover. Corners bumped, each revealing a glimpse of the boards themselves, most noticeably the front bottom corner (extends about .5 inches up, small corner of front cover revealed). Fading along hinges and edges of covers. Cloth at crown and foot of spine unevenly worn away, reveal strong boards, about .75 inches up/down spine at longest point of each. A few small spots across front cover reveal similar uneven chipping away of cloth. Light scuffs across covers indicate shelf wear. Title page dated 1874. No date on copyright page. x + 768 pages. Includes frontispiece depicting map of Rome, index, black and white illustrations throughout text. Former owner's name written neatly in pencil at top right corner of one of several blank pages following front free endpaper. Pages otherwise clean and bright. Binding very shallowly cracked along hinges between pages 406-407 and 98-99, no binding linen revealed. Secure and neat along spine. Please email us with questions or to request photos.…

We're at 805 Caroline Street, in the heart of Fredericksburg's historic district. Open Monday to Saturday 10-6; and Sunday 12-5. In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…

Regular shipping by USPS Media Mail is $4. MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING DOES NOT INCLUDE TRACKING.
If you'd like tracking, please let us know before you place the order - We're happy to do it but it costs $1 extra because it means we have to print a shipping label for it individually, slowing down the shipping process considerably -- and we want to be able to keep basic shipping costs as low as we can.
