The handbook A History of Science in The Netherlands aims to correct this situation by providing a chronological and thematic survey of the field from the 16th century to the present, essays on selected aspects of science in the Netherlands, and reference biographies of about 65 important Dutch scientists. Written by more than 10 experts from Europe and North America, the handbook is the standard English-language reference work for the field.

Review
Trevor Levere, AMBIX, 2000.
'...an indispensable guide to the history of science in the Netherlands from the formation of the country in the sixteenth century through the twentieth century. Anyone who wished to learn about Dutch science will find this volume useful, thoughtful, and authoritative. It will also be of interest to anyone concerned about national styles of science...a work of thoroughness, usefulness, and tolerant argumentativeness.'
Harold J. Cook, ISIS, 2001.
