Item description from seller

Scarce (Volume I only). This is an early reprint of the 1954 edition, and is not a former library book. Dark blue cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine. This valuable publication is 827 pages in length, and features 570 carefully executed text figures, 36 black-and-white plates, a color frontispiece, 10 tables, and 9 maps. Students of ancient Egypt will find much of interest here. The chapters by Cyril Aldred (Fine Wood-work) and O. Neugebauer (Mathematics and Astronomy) deserve special note. Our copy is perfectly clean, and is in very good condition. Photographs are available upon request. "This five volume set includes the following titles: Volume I: From Early Times to Fall of Ancient Empires; Volume II: The Mediterranean Civilizations and the Middle Ages, 700 B.C to A.D. 1500; Volume III: From the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, 1500-1750; Volume IV: The Industrial Revolution, 1750-1850; and Volume V: The Late Nineteenth Century, 1850-1900. From the Preface: "The main object of this work is to provide students of technology and applied science with some humane and historical background for the studies. They may thus be helped to realize that the subjects of their special training are parts of a very ancient process and are rooted in many civilizations. These volumes aim at providing a longer perspective of the ways in which the immensely complex technical knowledge of our civilization came into being".

Store description

A large collection of privately owned publications, mostly relating to ancient Egypt (all periods), Nubia, and the surrounding areas, which have been gathered together over the course of the last fifty years. Books range from second-hand in good condition to extremely rare, with a number of recently acquired brand new volumes. Over the years I have also procured a selection of withdrawn university library books. The collection further includes a significant number of scholarly journals and popular magazines about the ancient world. Please browse the titles currently available. Additional works are still being added. There are hundreds more yet to be listed. If you should have any questions about any of these offerings, please feel free to inquire. Emails are attempted to be answered in an expeditious manner. Your purchases are always carefully wrapped and shipped promptly. The books come from a smoke-free household. Photographs are available to those seriously interested.
