Add to basketAs the sub-title of the opening workof this four volume set proclaims, Irish history is recorded "From the Earliest Days to the Present Day" which takes the Ulster saga to the time immediately following World War I. The opening paragraph of the first chapter advises that the earliest days rely on information "purely mythical or legendary" which must be "dismissed" by the "student of Irish history." Thus, while the first volume takes the story to 1590 no finite staring point is nominated. Vol II covers the 1588 to 1640 period., III 1640 to 1705 and IV to the early years of the 1900s. The books of the set are virtually identical in presentation. The first vol has 266 pages, II 272 pages, III 260 pages and IV 292 pages. The first three each have a volume index while the final carries a "complete" set index. . Each volume has 10 to 12 b/w plates, art or photographs, plus a tissue protected frontis portrait. several maps in set include fold-outs,somed with colour shading. Each volume's blue hard cover is VG with light, unobtrusive wear to corners and spine extremities, gilt spine titles are slightly faded, a red hand on gilt shield is centered each front board and is also VG. End-papers to each volume are light grey and carry at top FFEP ink name of original owner (vol 1 with tipped-in lodge receipt, possibly from the purchase?) The text block of each volume is in excellent condition with few foxing spots. These books are to be sold as a set. Each book has an unpacked weight of approx 800grams. Overseas despatch would be by ecomony air mail. Please contact vendor regarding accurate international postage rates.
