Reiki (pronounced "RAY-key") is a completely natural system of healing based on "life force energy". A Reiki practitioner placing his or her hands on or near their client to facilitate the flow and balancing of energy.
I wrote my set of Reiki books because I had numerous questions as I learned Reiki that were not covered by my teachers and were not readily answered in the books and web sites I read. I have determined to spare my readers any confusions and ignorances about what Reiki is, how it works, and how it is practiced, as best I can.
Reiki is not a religion or cult, a dogma or specific doctrine of belief, a form of mind control or hypnosis, psychic anything, imagination or wishful thinking, nor is Reiki the channeling of a 'spirit.' Reiki is a system for healing and growth.
It is simple, easy to learn, and can be done by anyone. Reiki is experiential. The definitions, descriptions, and other accounts of Reiki are merely pale representations of ideas and concepts whose substance is in experience. Appreciation of Reiki is in the application.
The history of Reiki creates a context, frame of reference, and a starting point -- an understanding if you will -- for anyone who is curious about or interested in Reiki in general, and for anyone who wishes to learn the practice of Reiki. "
I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. Cultivating a close, warm-hearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It is the ultimate success in life." His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet
This history and understanding of Reiki is an appropriate prerequisite for my set of three training manuals, in which I teach the traditional Western form of Reiki known as Usui Shiki Ryoho (pronounced "oo-SUE-ee sh'KEE ree-OH-ho").
Usui Shiki Ryoho, named for its developer Mikao Usui, is more literally translated as "Usui Style Healing Method" and more eloquently translated as "Usui System of Natural Healing."
About the Author: Hello, I am Rev. David A. Smith CMT. I am a nationally certified massage therapist and a Reiki master/teacher. I am a master in six forms of Reiki and I teach Usui Shiki Ryoho (traditional Western Reiki). I am ordained in the Order of Melchizedek -- an interfaith service ministry and priesthood of individuals committed to teach and/or heal the Human Condition. I offer care of the body, mind and spirit to those who cross my path, through my therapeutic work and through the teaching of Reiki.
I also have a bachelor's degree in Natural Science, a day job as a computer geek in Corporate America, and two cars in the garage in suburban America. A most significant achievement in my life has been to raise my two children to be the adults they now are.
I also pursue knowledge and understanding of the human experience in this, the material world. I ever increasingly appreciate the Divine nature of all life, and the intimate relationship we all have with the Divine. Some people are aware of and consciously pursue their path/calling, others simply live their lives within limited awareness. I now believe there are no such things as accidents or coincidences, only experiences that help us learn our true nature as human beings and our purpose in life. I have found Reiki to be a wonderful gift and I feel it is part of my calling to teach those who wish to learn.
