543 + 476pp 8.5 x 5.5 inch. A handsome set, gilt titling to maroon labels on gilt decorated ribbed spines. Still well bound but with some cracking starting to front hinges. This set originally belonged to Melville Portal of Laverstoke. (He became an MP, JP, and High Sheriff of Hampshire). It has his armorial book plate on paste-downs and remained in the Family Library till it was all sold off in the 1990s. The interior is good and clean with no deliberate markings, just some age browning to end-papers. Marbled end-papers and marbled edges. The set weighs 1.8kg and additional carriage may be requested to countries outside of the UK.
