The Hobbit 1956

1956 Eighth impression (or Second edition, fourth impression) published by George Allen & Unwin. Dust jacket states Seventh impression. The publisher used surplus jackets from the previous printing, with the original price clipped and replacement price of 12s 6d printed by the publisher. Jacket is a little age toned, with small tears and chips to the spine ends and corners, with tanning and light spotting to the inside, and is in a tidy archival quality removable jacket. Green cloth covers with dragon and mountain decoration, generally fresh, with a little fading to the spine and edges, very slight lean, green top edge. Map endpapers, first blank page has a small mark where a price or name has been rubbed out, next blank page has a previous owners name in pen, otherwise pages clean and bright. A lovely copy in very good condition.
