Fifth impression of the 2nd edition (9th impression overall) of The Hobbit, or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Allen & Unwin in 1957. Includes the full-colour frontispiece "The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the-Water" as well as Tolkien's original line drawings. Publisher's green cloth with slight fading to the spine and a few spots to the boards. Spine ends show light wear. Binding remains tight and sound. The maps are in excellent condition, with the red and black ink still clear and bright on the endpapers. Some scattered foxing, particularly to the opening pages. Contemporary inscription dated December 1957 on the first blank page following the front free endpaper. A nice and collectible copy.
