The USS Indianapolis delivered the components of the first atomic bomb, was struck by Japanese torpedoes four days later, and sank in twelve minutes. No distress signal got out, and no one knew she was gone.
Radioman Jack Harlan survived the sinking. What followed was four days adrift in the Philippine Sea without rescue, without fresh water, and without enough life vests to go around.

The sharks found them the second night. They were in the water four days before anyone noticed they were missing. Jack gave himself one job: keep his friend Tommy Ruiz alive until rescue came.
