Hold Fast : Tasting God's Goodness in Deep Sorrow

In 2014, after nearly a decade and a half of college ministry, Cameron Malpass was on the verge of burnout. Although a back injury disrupted her much-needed sabbatical, she was able to spend time on the beach on vacation with her family, relaxing and enjoying God’s peace.

Mere days later, Malpass’s mom developed symptoms that would later be diagnosed as an aggressive cancer. The sabbatical took on new meaning as Malpass was thrust into spiritual preparation for the hardest battle she’d ever faced. Her inspirational memoir records her sorrows but also reveals the moments in which she tasted the goodness of God’s provision.

You’ll read of the painful symmetry that was her realization that her mom taught her how to live—and how to die. But you’ll also read of a courageous woman who faced death with unspeakable joy. Malpass moves with readers through the hardest parts too, opening her heart to share how she prevailed through the fog of grief and held fast to her faith.

Within these poignant pages, between the first chapter on “The Calm before the Storm” and Malpass’s final word in “Eternal Life,” you’ll find the incredible peace that comes from an unflinching hope in Christ.

Cameron Malpass earned a degree in elementary education and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Malpass has worked with college students through the worldwide missions organization Cru in the United States and overseas. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The basis for Hold Fast came from Malpass working to become a good steward during a hard season in life. The writing ultimately became a therapeutic and healing process, and Malpass hopes others will learn to heal though the words of this heartbreaking yet inspirational memoir.
