Important historical and personal bible of Eleanor Morris McCormick. Eleanor Russell Morris was the descendent of Lewis Morris who owned most of the Bronx and founded New Jersey. Her ancestors include Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Gouverneur Morris, the penman of the U.S. Constitution. She married into another very famous and wealthy family, the McCormick's of Chicago. Several births and marriages are recorded in this bible, along with the places and dates, including: BIRTHS - "Robert Hall McCormick, Jr. son of Robert Hall McCormick and Sarah Lord McCormick at Morristown New Jersey July 10th 1878" -- Morristown is named after Eleanor's ancestors. Also, "Eleanor Russell Morris daughter of Henry Lewis Morris and Anna Rutherford Morris at Morrisania, New York (a section of the Bronx) New York City September 24th 1881" MARRIAGES - "Henry Lewis Morris to Anna Rutherford Russell at Ascension Church New York, November 5th 1868 by Rev. John Cotton Smith, D.O. November 5th 1868" and "Robert Hall McCormick JR. to Eleanor Russell Morris at St. Bartholomew's Church New York by Rev. David H. Greer D.O. January 22nd 1903.
