Includes Old and New Testaments (New Testament dated 1839) and Apocrypha, as well as Canne's Marginal Notes and References, Indices, Alphabetical Tables, other references. Family record pages include considerable information about the Cowles family (David Shumway Cowles) from 1839-1963, with newspaper clippings about family relative Dr. B. T. Blake of Darrington, WA mounted on paper and laid in loosely in the family section. Full brown leather with decorative blind embossed covers, black spine label, raised spine bands, additional spine decoration in gilt, woodcut frontis illustrations at beginning of Testaments, other full pages with woodcuts throughout the text. Fair but sound condition with considerable cover rubbing, some separation of front joint at top and bottom with cover securely attached, text block sound, endpapers and frontis detached but present, pages lightly foxed throughout, woodcuts a little more age darkened, name stamp of David Cowles on preliminary blank. Later edition of the Cooperstown King James Version Bible. The 1827 Phinney edition was used by LDS leader Joseph Smith to help translate the Book of Mormon. Hard Cover.
