We long for home.
Home should be a place of love and laughter. Shared meals. Special moments. A place of comfort, rest, and safety. Yet the homes we make always seem to fall short of satisfying our longing. They’re imperfect, transitory, and prone to fracture. People leave them. Intruders enter them. Crises shake them. Too often, instead of peace and security, home is a place of brokenness and pain. These failings of our earthly homes expose in us a longing for a better one. The good news is that there is a remedy for our homesickness.
In this 7-session study, Caroline Saunders follows the theme of home through the Bible. From humanity’s first home to our eternal one, we’ll see God drawing near to abide with us. We’ll find that even the best aspects of home here are just a glimmer of what God is building for us through Christ. This study will affirm that our longing for home is good and purposeful, pointing us to our truest home which is found in Him.
Features:
- 7 video teaching sessions discussing truths found throughout the study, available via redemption code printed in the Bible study book
- 6 weeks of personal study to be completed between the 7 group sessions
Benefits:
- Unpack the theme of home found throughout Scripture.
- Identify your spiritual homesickness and be equipped to process your longing for home through God’s story.
- Understand how God’s promise of a true, forever home is better than any home we have experienced.
- Find freedom from the pressure of maintaining the image of a perfect home.
- Session One: The First Home (35:50)—In Session 1, Caroline lays the foundation for the study with a poignant introduction, then focuses our attention on Genesis 1–3. She shows us the loving character of God as we observe the beauty, tragedy, and hope for restoration that takes place in humanity’s first home.
- Session Two: Seeking a Homeland (29:34)—Our focus in Session 2 is on the promises of home God made to Abraham and his family. Caroline will show us how Abraham chose to believe God, left everything behind, and looked forward to a home that was ahead.
- Session Three: Going Home (33:40)—The Session 3 teaching begins with Abraham’s descendants enslaved in the land of Egypt. But Caroline will show how God remembered His people and raised up a deliverer named Moses. We’ll see that despite Moses having a complicated relationship with his earthly home, he found a true home in God as he led God’s people to the brink of the promised land.
- Session Four: Away from Home (29:49)—In Session 4, Caroline unpacks the sad story of Israel’s exile. She’ll show that their joyous conquest and occupation of the promised land was soon followed by willful disobedience to God. And despite many warnings and calls for repentance from God’s prophets, the Israelites continued to sin. So, God sent enemies to remove them from the land. They found themselves far from home.
- Session Five: The Way Home (31:41)—Although the people were able to return home from exile, they remained far from God. They didn’t just need relocated bodies, they needed regenerated hearts. In Session 5, Caroline will show us how at just the right time, God sent His Son to earth to make new hearts possible. Jesus came to not only show us the way home, but to be the way home.
- Session Six: Almost Home (31:03)—In Session 6, Caroline will explain how Jesus didn’t come just to fulfill promises, but to make them. She’ll unpack two promises Jesus made: 1) to send a helper, the Holy Spirit, who would make His home inside us; and 2) to return for us, to take us to be with Him in a glorious forever home.
- Session Seven: The Story of Home (31:20)—In the final video teaching, Caroline will wrap up the study by telling the whole beautiful story of home, from Genesis to Revelation.
