About the Author

Leslie Andrews Carpenter is a native of Greenville, Mississippi. She attributes her love of cooking to her New Orleans-born parents and their heritage of communal cooking and eating. Leslie holds a degree in education from the University of Mississippi, where she was awarded the title of Miss Ole Miss. Leslie lives in Jackson with her husband, Phillip, and their four children Rob, William, Myers and Annie.

Helen Puckett DeFrance was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. The fourth child in a family of six children, she learned cooking from her grandmother, Helen Todd. She holds a masters degree in Education from Pepperdine University with an emphasis in the Montessori method of education which promotes a "hands-on" approach to learning. Helen and her son, Martin, live in Jackson.
