Homoeopathy: Its Nature and Principles

Homoeopathy: Its Nature And Principles by George Gleiwitz. This work presents a defense of homeopathy, tracing its origins to Samuel Hahnemann and explaining the core ideas in accessible terms. It outlines three principal medical approaches—antipathic (against the disease), homeopathic (similar remedies in small doses), and allopathic (foreign to the disease)—and argues that antipathic treatments provide only temporary relief and can worsen long-term health. The author emphasizes the homeopathic principle similia similibus curantur, the value of studying the totality of symptoms, and the necessity of proving medicines on healthy individuals to determine their effects. The text discusses dosing, the concept of homeopathic aggravation, and the importance of diet in healing, while critiquing conventional medical practice of the time. It also offers historical context, a defense of homeopathy as a science, and discusses the life of its founder, Hahnemann, and the author’s own background. The volume closes with guidance for establishing a homeopathic practice and notes on remedies and patient care, reflecting a 19th-century reformist medical perspective.
