In 1986, she received the University of Minnesota’s Irwin Kerlan Award for her "singular attainments in the creation of children’s literature," and in 1990, the University of Mississippi’s Silver Medallion for "Distinguished Contribution to Children’s Literature." In 1991, the American Library Association adopted a resolution expressing the gratitude of American librarians for her "far-reaching contributions to children’s literature."
David McPhail is an award-winning writer and illustrator of more than 80 books.
