Stereoview photograph on a tan Northern Pacific Scenery / Yellowstone Park Scenery mount [9 cm x 18 cm]. Title printed in black at bottom margin beneath right image. Tiny bump at the top edge, minor sporadic spotting/foxing to right photograph, otherwise clear with nice contrast and focus. View shows stark silhouettes of two men in cowboy hats with fishing poles, standing upon a hot spring cone in Yellowstone Lake at dusk. A lovely image. Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921) was the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railway and, later, for Yellowstone National Park. Haynes travelled to Yellowstone in 1882 and captured many images of the emerging park. He opened his Log Cabin Studio the following year at Mammoth Hot Springs and continued to photograph the park for many years to come. Haynes' photography is inextricably linked to the public image of the famous national park.
