The Hours We Keep: Ordinary Lives in the Artificial Intelligence Revolution

What happens when artificial intelligence stops being something we read about — and starts changing the way we live?

The Hours We Keep: Ordinary Lives in an Age of Artificial Intelligence explores how AI, automation and robotics may reshape everyday life, from the work we do and the hours we keep to the way we learn, earn, travel, shop, care for one another and spend our time.

Written for the general reader, this is not a technical guide to artificial intelligence. It is a book about people.

Through recognisable situations and ordinary lives, Martin Steiner examines what happens when machines can perform more of the tasks that once filled our working days, intelligent systems become part of our homes and communities, and long-established ideas about careers, income and retirement begin to change.

The future will not arrive all at once. It is already beginning.

The Hours We Keep asks the question that matters most: when artificial intelligence changes the world around us, how will it change the life you live?
