Rick Mater is a longtime runner and Emmy-nominated TV executive living in Los Angeles. He was a miler in high school, lettered in cross-country in college, and has run the Grand Canyon twice as a 64-year-old cardiac patient and heart attack survivor. He has multiple stents in his LAD artery (a.k.a. the widow-maker) and a defibrillator implanted in his chest. Mater is the author of the critically acclaimed novel BEAT. He is formerly married, has two 20-something children, and continues to run.
