About the Author
Patch Adams, M.D. is the founder and director of the Gesundheit Institute, a thirty-year-old project to create a hospital that addresses all the problems of care delivery. They have never charged money, accepted third-party reimbursement, or carried malpractice insurance. It is the first hospital to fully integrate all the healing arts and to be wellness and arts focused. Patch has been a clown for more than 30 years. He has performed all over the world and for fourteen years has taken a group of clowns every year to Russia. He is the author of Gesundheit (Healing Arts Press), which was made into the movie Patch Adams by Universal Pictures (Released in December 1998), starring Robin Williams as Patch. At his core, Patch is a political activist, desiring a world that has replaced the gods of greed and power with generosity and compassion. He is a lover of poetry, dance, nature, people, and service.
