Bound in publisher's black cloth, gilt lettering to spine, publisher's color paper frame & illustration affixed to front board. Deckle fore-edge. Plain white endpapers. [2] blank, then: [x], xi-xvii, [xviii], [2], 3-208, [209] final page of text, [210-212] blank; 13 glossy color/b&w plates unpaginated inserts throughout; b&w line drawings; one tipped in chapter heading illus (to chapter one). Compiler's foreword; author's preface, seven chapters. Condition notes: a charming 1935 printing of the great Howard Pyle's work, with piratical atmosphere leaping off each page. This copy was a gift from "Mother and Daddy" to young Charles D. Ebersole in 1936 - a neat gift inscription adorns the front pastedown, and a bit of ephemera from that Christmas of 1936 is within - a nautical themed card to Charles from his parents (see photo). The volume itself is very good-minus, flawed mainly by the spine cloth fully separated from the rear board along the rear joint; the spine cloth remains connected along front joint, but needs careful treatment. Else, the boards are moderately worn, with bumped corners, tanned edges, and moderate foxing to top edge. Interior generally tanned with an occasional light smudge; aforementioned gift inscription to front pastedown, and Charles' signature, neatly, to head titl page. All illustrations confirmed present. A lovely, slightly fragile, period piece. We personally inspect every book we offer.
