vi+100+4 pp. 17 x 11 cm. Nine tissue-guarded mounted albumen prints. Blue cloth bevelled boards with gilt lining and titling. A.e.g. Images are 6 x 9.5 cm. They include Peterhead from the Links, Howes o' Buchan House, Inverugie, The Castle etc., Ravenscraig, Pitfour House, Fraserburgh from the south, Cairnbulg Castle, Strichen Village and Strichen House. The spine has been professionally relaid, and this is a good tight copy. The photographs are mounted on heavier paper than the text and remain unfaded and very fresh. The Fraserborough photograph shows the railway line down to the Harbour with various railway building and sailing ships in the distance. This is the only illustration to include a view of the railway. Owner's name R.R. Henderson, Viewmount, Blackhill, on the ffep. This is a lovely example of an early Railway guide, three years after opening, albeit without details of timetables, fares etc. and of quite early photographs of scenes en route. A scarce item. The Buchan Railway was opened in 1862 but fell foul to Beeching cuts, and finally closed in the 1970s. There are now serious efforts to reopen it for much the same reasons as the Borders Railway is reopening this year. Good Luck. (We cannot supply scans or copies of the illustrations.).
