Item description from seller

The author, English poet and satirist, served Sir Samuel Luke, a noted officer of Oliver Cromwell, during the Puritan Revolution. Following the restoration of Charles II, he wrote this famous mock-heroic poem, the first editions of which were published in 1663, 1664 and 1678, and which was then reprinted many times into the early nineteenth century. Hudibras is a venomous satire against the Puritans, in which Sir Samuel Luke is cast as the model for Sir Hudibras, the butt of the poem. 8vo; 18.8cm, 198 & (3)-165,(1) & 224pp. three parts in One volume, lacking title-page to Part I, which has been replaced by a title page for Part II, in contemporary full panelled calf, expertly rebacked, with original red morocco label laid down, raised bands, all edges stained red in contemporary style, the text is foxing toned throughout, some blemishes on the panels boards, a very good sound copy.
