The Human Algorithm Within Us

What if the way we respond to life isn’t random at all?

In The Human Algorithm Within Us, Debra G. Jaffe, MSW, explores a simple pattern that operates within each of us:
Feel → Listen → Act → Heal.

We feel something—physically or emotionally. We listen, or choose not to. We act, even when that action is doing nothing. And then we begin the process of healing.

Through everyday examples and relatable scenarios, Jaffe examines how this human algorithm influences the choices we make when facing illness, injury, fear, relationships, change, and the unexpected challenges of life. She explores the difference between healing and curing, surviving and thriving, and reacting automatically versus recognizing that we still have choices—even when our choices are limited.

This is not a promise that every challenge can be fixed. It is an invitation to become curious about what your body and mind are telling you and to recognize the pattern already working within you.

The algorithm has always been there.

The question is: Are you listening?
