About the Authors:
Dr. James A. Buford, Jr. is Director of Ellis-Harper Management, a human resource consulting firm, and Adjunct Professor of Management at Auburn University. He also serves on the faculty of Troy State University-Fort Benning. He received the BSF and MS degrees from Auburn University and the PhD from University of Georgia. Dr. Buford has authored or co-authored three other texts and over 50 articles and papers. His work has appeared in many of the leading HR management journals. In addition to his research, teaching and continuing education activities he has consulted widely with organizations on HR and general management issues. His clients include numerous cities and counties. During the past several years Dr. Buford has served as an expert witness in HR cases brought forth in federal courts. At Auburn University Dr. Buford held both administrative and faculty assignments, and has received several awards including the Auburn Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Extension. He was involved in the development of one of the first accreditation programs in the United States for local government HR professionals. He is also writer of creative non-fiction with two critically acclaimed collections of essays.
Dr. Lindner is Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Education and Member of the Graduate Faculty at Texas A&M University. His research interests include management of human resources, distance education, and planning and needs assessment. Dr. Lindner teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses, on campus and at a distance, including a course in human resource management. He received his BS and MBA degrees from Auburn University and his PhD from The Ohio State University. Before coming to Texas A&M University, Dr. Lindner worked as a Senior Research Associate and Coordinator Distance Learning Center at The Ohio State University. Dr. Lindner has authored or coauthored over 50 articles and papers including a management textbook. Dr. Lindner has received number awards for his research and teaching including Epsilon Sigma Phi State Early Career Service Award and Agricultural Communicators in Education Critique and Awards Program: Silver Award for Technical Publication. In addition to his teaching and research activities, Dr. Lindner serves as a consultant for Ellis-Harper Management and the Local Government Institute whose clients include numerous local governments. Working within Department of Agricultural Education's Distance Education workgroup at Texas A&M University, Dr. Lindner is developing, delivering, and evaluating courses delivered via distance education technologies to the Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University Joint Doctor of Education Degree in Agricultural Education via Distance Education Program.
