Human-Robot Interaction Safety Algorithm: A Comprehensive Framework for Human-Robot Interaction Safety and Collision Avoidance Systems

As collaborative robots (cobots) increasingly enter our daily lives, ensuring safe and effective interaction between humans and robots has become a pressing challenge—especially in the dynamic, unstructured environment of the home. This book explores a novel safety algorithm for human-robot interaction (HRI), focusing on minimizing the risk of injury during close-contact tasks. Using the open-source Gazebo simulator and a 7-degree-of-freedom Kinova Gen3 robotic arm, the study demonstrates how velocity and trajectory control can prevent collisions and adapt to obstacles in real time. The proposed approach is validated against international safety standards (ISO/TS 15066:2016), highlighting its potential for real-world application. Unlike traditional research that centers on industrial contexts, this work pioneers safety strategies tailored specifically for domestic HRI.
