A personable, well-written, and welcome addition to the small library of first-hand accounts of the psychological aspects of living with diabetes. Raymond, an English professor, has had Type I, insulin-dependent diabetes since childhood, and has not forgotten any of the fears, anxieties, annoyances, or triumphs of dealing with chronic disease. This book is especially valuable for newly diagnosed patients or people who have been in denial. Having come "out of the closet" after 30 years of living with a condition that must be managed almost exclusively by the patient, the author shares, in great detail, his experiences of coming to terms with it and finally getting on with life. Highly recommended.
