Back in the late 1950's, Bill Seaton's family was no different than many other modern-day pioneers heading west to southern California with stars in their eyes and their belongings in a U-Haul trailer. But the spunky Seaton family's trip and their subsequent life in the "Promised Land" are anything but conventional.

Seaton records his family's adventures--and misadventures in a hilarious new book, "Humorous Letters from the Edge: Chronicles of a Crazy Clan." A public relations executive for SeaWorld in San Diego--who perhaps missed his calling and should have been a comedian--offers up a collection of annual year-end letters he sent to friends and family over three decades. With tongue firmly in cheek, he tells of the ups and downs of his and wife Lovae's brood of four children. The nostalgic mini-memoirs joyously capture the essence of the l960s, l970s and l980s in southern California as he held fun positions with a large ad agency, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and the California Lottery.

The book is a delightfully demented description of a loveably crazy clan. A fast, fun read you can't put down, it is filled with antecdotes of Seaton's experiences with dozens of stars and celebrities from Dean Martin and Brooke Shields to Perry Como, Howard Cosell and astronaut Eugene Cernan, last man to walk on the moon.

Bill Seaton has been one of San Diego's premiere public relations executives for more than 40 years. Now SeaWorld's historian and senior TV correspondent, he spent 13 years as the company's corporate director of PR. His humorous speeches are much in demand around town.

Seaton holds many awards for his special promotions for SeaWorld, the state Lottery and the town's famous Zoo. He was named one of the San Diego Press Club's Headliners of the Year and the Public Relations Club PR Man of the Year.

While at the Zoo in the late 60's he named Joan Embery as its ambassador and placed her on "The Johnny Carson Show," where she became a perennial guest.

A Little League manager for 15 years and the father of four and grandfather of five, he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, saying it only seems like 49.
