This award-winning handcrafted picture book is an adaptation of a traditional Indian folk tale about a hungry but lazy lion who would rather trick other animals than hunt for his food. The vibrant and humorous art is rendered in the Warli style of folk painting from western India, usually found on the walls of tribal houses. Illustrations and text in this handcrafted edition are silk-screened by hand onto handmade rice paper from India.

Gita Wolf has written more than seventeen books for children and adults. A highly original and creative voice in contemporary Indian publishing, she has pursued her interest in exploring and experimenting with the form of the book and its status as a revered cultural object. Many of her children's books have won major international awards.

One of India's finest upcoming contemporary artists, Indrapramit Roy also teaches painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda, in western India. In 1990, he received a fellowship to study painting at the Royal College of Art, London, and won the Burston Award and the Fleur Cawles Award for Excellence. He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows all over India.
