Hunka Chunka Monkey loved chocolate chip cookies. He loved them even more when he dipped his chocolate chip cookies in double fudge dipping sauce and then covered them with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. He was a happy monkey who sat at the top of his tree, eating his cookies, and watching the other animals play. One day Hunka Chunka Monkey sees Runka Dunka Donkey playing basketball near his tree and he is so curious that he decides to climb down for a closer look. He doesn't move very fasthe's too out of shape from eating too many cookies and ice cream and fudge saucebut after a few days, the climb gets easier. And as time passes, he discovers he can swing through the branches as he hurries to play with his new friend.Sam E. Bromley's Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up teaches kids an important lesson about healthy eating and exercise without being heavy-handed or preachy. Kids will see, through Hunka Chunka Monkey's eyes, that it's easy to be fit and trim, because, as Runka Dunka Donkey tells his new friend, he only has to cut backnot give uphis favorite snack, and it's fun to run and climb and play basketball. Winsome illustrations enhance the story's message in a fun and playful way. Young children will find the drawings as appealing as the story itselfthey'll want to read Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up again and again.
