Six magnificent large hand-colored lithographed plates, all heightened with gum arabic. Actual size of engraved surface of plates 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches; 216 x 317 mm.Bound ca. 1940 in half black morocco over blue paper boards with beveled edges, ruled in gilt. Front cover with original title leaf (or original wrapper) pasted-on over an orange paper border. Spine with five raised bands, lettered in gilt in compartments. With the bookplate of Joel Spitz on the front paste-down. Housed in a fleece-lined blue buckram slipcase. A very fine copy, the plates bright and fresh with superlative hand-coloring.Provenance: Purchased at Parke-Bernet, 1947. A very fine and amusing set of plates showing the misfortunes of three cockney huntsmen who begin their day at 8 o’clock, find difficulty in staying mounted at 9 o’clock, get hopelessly entangled with fences and trees by 10 o’clock, then charge into a herd of pigs at 11 o’clock, for which the local villagers exact a heavy fee by 12 noon.
