An interesting, revised second edition of The Hungtindon Peerage by Irish genealogist Henry Nugent Bell. The first edition was published a year prior by the same publishing conger.Bound in half calf with paper covered boards.Illustrated with an engraved frontis portrait, a further four engraved portraits and an impressive fold-out genealogical table. Incomplete, sadly missing the first two portraits of Jane Shore and Lady Jane Grey. Compared with a copy from the Hathi Trust Digital Library.Centring aorund the Hastings family, Nugent Bell explores the genealogical history of the Earl of Huntingdon title.Although professing to be a serious investigation, the author makes a few imaginative deviations that may suggest otherwise.This copy with a series of personal ink letters from a previous owner loosely inserted, dated from 1961-1966. Bound in half calf with paper backed boards. Externally, smart. With light marks and scuffs to the paper coverings. Paper has worn through to the boards at the majority of extremities. Both boards notably bowed. Rubbing visible to spine, joints and extremities, heaviest at lower front corner resulting in loss of cloth. Upper corner of rear board with lifting to leather and loss to paper. Book plate to front paste down. Prominent creasing to front end papers. Evidence of archival repair to top corner of p. 35. A tear to p. 132. Hinges strained at front board but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Mild age toning. Missing two plates of Jane Shore and Lady Jane Grey. Tissue guards with minor offsetting. Red marks to p. 171. With three letters loosely inserted. Good.
