Add to basketPaperback. The United States was the worst among developed countries in per-capita child abuse and neglect in 2014. This unconscionable reality is about to get far worse as the income/education gap widens here in our country. Learn the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunites for improvement and major change in our current child welfare system. While the author's own story of childhood abuse has a happy ending, many victims do not. This can change, and you can make all the difference, one child at time. With the help of social workers, psychologists, and other high-ranking professionals, Babin presents current, factual data about the state of abused and neglected children at both the state and country levels-including devastating statistics that many of us would rather not hear but that are necessary to learn if we have any hope of enacting positive change. It Shouldn't Hurt to Be a Child provides teachers, doctors, and other advocates for child welfare valuable info, as well as possible solutions for breaking the seemingly endless cycles of abuse. D. P. Babin is a former senior executive who retired after a forty-year career in the business world. After searching for a way to give back to his community, particularly to children, he began volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and went on to become the CASA board chair for the state of Michigan.
Having overcome an emotionally abusive childhood of his own, Babin and his wife raised four wonderful children, each of whom went on to live happy, healthy, and successful lives with families of their own.
