VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "Hutchinson's Story of the British Nation - Volume III" By Various Contributors. Edited by Walter Hutchinson. Undated, but believed to be an early Edition, published by Hutchinson & Co, London, circa 1923. Large & heavy item. PLEASE NOTE: As this book is heavy (over 2.4 Kg with packaging), if you are buying this from outside the U.K. please expect additional shipping costs. 4to, 27.5 cm x 22 cm x 3.5 cm, Red cloth-covered boards with gilt embossed lettering & decoration on spine & front cover, no dust-jacket. 512 pages. Weight: approx. 2.3 Kg (2300 Grams). CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there are several cracks between pages throughout. Spine is discoloured, scuffed & slightly marked along its length, bumped, scuffed & slightly frayed either end, gilt dull & slightly worn away in places. Cover is a bit faded, few small bumps & scratches, gilt bright, clean on front, marked on back, edges worn, scuffed & bumped. Corners are bumped & scuffed. Top outer edge darkened & scuffed. Slight damage to Frontispiece & title page where they adhered to each other. Crease (almost a tear) on vertical edge of Frontispiece. Frontispiece & some other plates slightly marked on reverse and/or alongside spine. Some pages & plates (very few) have corners folds/creases, and/or smudges/marks mostly in margins, and/or light handling creases, and/or 2 sets of 2 small holes with rust alongside spine, and/or tiny edge bumps/nicks/tears. All illustration plates present, including Frontispiece. Light age tanning & very rare foxing throughout. EARLY EDITION, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE FOR ITS AGE!!!
