The third edition of this work, which was first published in 1738.Illustrated with five engraved plates to the rear. Collated, complete.A collection of letters from astronomer and natural philosopher Roger Cotes on principles of fluid mechanics, including the study of fluids at rest and the study of gases, and was considered an important exposition of Newtonian physics.ESTC T144814Edited and with notes by Robert Smith.On Cotes's death at age 34, Newton remarked, 'had Cotes lived, we might have known something'. In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to joints. Front joint starting, with board firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good.
